Five Reasons to get Addiction Treatment Now

The decision to get treatment for an addiction is critical and it sets into motion events that can help heal the lives of addicts and their families. However, fear and denial can cause a persom to decide not to get help. Many say that they don't have time to get help, but in 90 days or less a person can get the skills they need to live life addiction-free.

* The benefits of stopping the use of drugs or alcohol are so numerous that we can't list them all, and those alone should be enough to motivate a person to get addiction treatment. However, if the addict thinks back to all the time they spent buying alcohol and drugs, and how much time they wasted being high, that 90 days doesn't seem like that long.

* Addiction is progressive by nature. When looking toward the future, you should think about the time and life quality lost to addiction, and the fact that it will only get worse wtih time. If you are involved in illegal activities, you could also lose a portion of your life to incarceration- probably a lot longer than you would be in a rehab program.

* Those in the throes of addiction will often say that they do not have a problem, and when asked they will come up with excuses as to why they do not need to get help. Many argue that since treatment is expensive and will take them away from their jobs, the true cost is too high. However, the reasons why you should get help more than outweigh the cost.

* Think about how much you are spending on your addiction and multiply that by the number of days in a year. That doesn't even count the time lost at work, or the diminished quality of life, or the negative health effects. Those that seek help often do so after a life-changing event, such as an accident, an overdose or an arrest. Many rehab centers have a legal staff that help addicts navigate the court system and they also provide proof of the time the addict has spent in treatment.

* Any of the reasons above should be sufficient to convince an addict to get help, but the most important reason is to stay alive. Drug and alcohol addiction can cause an enormous number of health issues, and in a lot of cases, it can cause the loss of life.
